Mark Morris High School Foundation Scholarships 

MARK MORRIS HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (10) Open to all graduating seniors, with plans to attend a two-year or four-year college or vocational school. The $1,200 award is based on a student’s activities and/or leadership, academics, future goals and financial need. A minimum of one these scholarships will be awarded to a student considering a vocational school.

KICKABUSH FAMILY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1) a $1,000 scholarshipin memory of Jim & Linda Kickabush, for a senior who has impacted Mark Morris High School through leadership and service.  Criteria: 40% student leadership & service, 30% academic achievement, 20% future goals and 10% financial need. 

DICK MEALY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (2) These $500 scholarships are awarded to a female and male swim team member at MM, based on strong character, academics and leadership – qualities embraced by Coach Mealy. The AD, swim coach and Jim Clary & Randy Sweet (founders) may participate in the review process.

MC CRADY BROTHERS SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a senior football player who has upheld the ideals of the Mark Morris Football program.  The coaching staff, athletic director and Foundation Scholarship Committee will recommend a recipient to the Foundation board.

DICK & PAT ROLAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1000 scholarship, awarded in memory of Dick and Pat Roland, is given by a former student who was profoundly affected by the generosity and mentoring of the Rolands during his senior year at MM. The recipient must attend Lower Columbia College and major in Automotive Technology, pre-nursing or another health-related field. Criteria: 2.0 GPA, financial hardship.

Note: Must also provide your high school attendance record and an additional 500-word essay about a person who has positively affected your life.

SUPERINTENDENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS (1) This $500 award is for a senior pursuing a career as a public educator. Criteria: 4-year GPA that exceeds 2.5, involvement in community and school.

Note: Must also provide: 1) high school attendance record and an essay regarding the importance of maintaining and supporting a strong public education system (150-250 words)

BERGQUIST SCHOLARSHIP FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS (1) This is a $1,000 non-renewable award for college-bound Mark Morris seniors based on demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, community service, and the express interest in pursuing a career in education and/or related fields such as PreK-12 teaching, school, counseling, speech-language educator, technology/media specialist in education, library sciences, and special education. Student must intend to continue their education at a two or four-year college or university.  Criteria: 3.0 GPA, graduating seniors from Mark Morris, intending to continue their education at a two or four-year college or university, four years continuous attendance at Mark Morris

  • Note: Must provide 1) description of your community service, including volunteer hours, type of service, leadership opportunities, and personal fulfillment;  2) short background (minimum 100 words) of your personal life, interests, hobbies and accomplishments;  3) statement (150-250 words) about your future career goals in the field of Education.  State your experiences working with children. Emphasize factors about yourself that would qualify you to become a teacher or a related position in the field of Education.

RICK FAULAND MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $500 award honors Rick Fauland, the father of former MM swimmers/water polo players Joe and Jordan Fauland. Rick loved all sports and watching his sons and friends participate for the Monarch teams. Criteria: 2.0 GPA, participated as a senior in water polo and/or swimming, financial need, student’s activities and/or leadership and future goals.

DR. JAMES REISNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1,000 scholarship honors the commitment to our community and school by Longview physician Dr. James Reisner, by his five children, three of whom are Mark Morris graduates. “Doc” also helped serve as a Monarch team doctor. This honor will be presented to a senior with a minimum 3.0 GPA, plans to pursue a career in the medical field and who lettered in athletics while at Mark Morris. 

Note: Must provide 1) an essay of 200-300 words to share your planned medical field of study and motivation/reasons for pursuing this field; 2) A list of the sport(s) teams for which you earned a letter of completion (varsity and/or junior varsity) at Mark Morris.

SPENCER’S HEARTSTRONG FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1,000 scholarship will be presented to a senior planning to pursue college or vocational studies to become a “first responder,” such as an EMT, firefighting, or law enforcement.  Criteria: 2.0 GPA and record of student leadership & school and community service.

Note: Must provide an essay of 200-300 words to share your career plans as a first responder and motivation/reasons for pursuing this field.

KEN MAKINEN EDUCATION AWARD, CLASS OF 1960 (1) This $500 scholarship is provided by the Class of 1960, in memory of former Mark Morris science teacher Ken Makinen. The award is based on a student’s plans to pursue a science-based career, HS activities and/or leadership, academics, future goals and financial need.

MARK MORRIS CLASS OF 1965 (1) At a recent class reunion 1965 class members raised funds to provide a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior. Criteria: 2.0 GPA, financial need, student’s activities and/or leadership and future goals.

MARK MORRIS CLASS OF 1974 (1) At a recent class reunion 1974 class members raised funds to provide a $1000 scholarship to a graduating senior. Criteria: 2.0 GPA, financial need and college plans to major in a service profession (i.e. social services, education, health care, fire science, law enforcement, etc.)

MARK MORRIS CLASS OF 1990 (1) 1990 class members have raised funds to provide an annual $1,500 scholarship to a graduating senior. Criteria: 2.0 GPA, financial need, student’s activities and/or leadership, and future goals.

JOHN SAPINSKY STUDENT-ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1,000 scholarship is presented in honor of former Mark Morris teacher and coach, John Sapinsky.  It is awarded to an outstanding student-athlete who has demonstrated leadership, work ethic, courage, sportsmanship, and integrity while excelling in both academics and athletics.  This scholarship is available for students attending a 2-year college, 4-year college or a trade school.  Criteria: 3.0 GPA, award of a Mark Morris varsity letter in an interscholastic sport. 

KEIGAN BAKER MEMORIAL FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1,000 scholarship is open to any full-time student who played football during the current school year and is a senior at Mark Morris High School.  (Running Start OK)  This student must also successfully and fully graduate from Mark Morris High School during the current school year.  This recipient will be selected based on drive, leadership, and mentorship.  A minimum 3.2 GPA is required. 

GO MONARCHS! GO HUSKIES! SCHOLARSHIP (1) A $2,500 scholarship offered for a female student who attends the University of Washington, Seattle campus, pursuing a career in STEM or business-related fields (i.e. marketing, finance, accounting, etc.).  This award is given by Kelsey (Anderson) Harstad, Class of 2001, in appreciation for the support and encouragement she received at Mark Morris when she pursued a similar path.  This scholarship is renewable up to four years for recipients who maintain eligibility.  Criteria: 3.5 GPA or higher and full class load each quarter.

BILL NOTEBOOM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (1) This $1500 scholarship is given in memory of Bill Noteboom, a long-time Longview school teacher and coach (from 1952-1979) who spent much of his career at Cascade Junior High School.  He loved watching his Cascade students excel at Mark Morris.  Criteria: 2.5 GPA or above, positive character traits such as helpfulness and good sportsmanship or having overcome challenges.
